The life history of the fungus in the nematode host has been investigated and the infection traced back to germinating conidiospores in the oesophagus. Two other Harposporium spp. were also isolated and it is shown that their mode of infection is similar to the one described for H. anguillulae. Because of these findings a new theory for the mode of infection is proposed and its significance in the ecology of the fungus discussed., language=, type=
