Abstract

Magnesium exerts a specific function in () the formation of the Gram complex, and the activation of cell division in certain Gram-positive bacteria, and () activation of bacterial growth. Of a series of divalent metallic ions, only manganese is capable of partially replacing magnesium in the above processes.
