Abstract

Summary: When fat and acetate are the principal substrates, the aneurin requirement of the ciliate is decreased but not entirely eliminated, in a way comparable to the aneurin-sparing effect of fats in metazoa. Aneurin-deficient cultures utilizing glucose or fat as substrates accumulate pyruvic acid.
