Abstract

Two extragenic suppressor mutations, and , which restore the sporulation of or mutants of to the wild-type level, were obtained. These suppressor mutations were located in the gene. Their location is close to that of the mutation, which suppresses and mutations. However, strains bearing the mutation differed in several phenotypic characteristics from mutants bearing the suppressor. Nucleotide sequence analysis revealed that the and mutations resulted in Glu to Val and Asn to Lys conversion, respectively, in the gene.
