Abstract

SUMMARY: The modes of sporulation of the parasitic and of stages in the primary mycelium of a strain of Streptomyces are compared. All produce spores singly on short side-branches, but the characters of the parasitic Actinomyces appear to be neotenic and degenerate, whereas those of the Streptomyces are primitive, and show signs of affiliations with a variety of different genera.
