Abstract

Summary: A commercially available powdered alumina is very suitable for breaking bacterial cells according to the method of Wiggert, Silverman, Utter & Werkman (1940). Extracts have been prepared from streptococci in this way, which are capable of glycolysis, the deamination of adenosine diphosphate, and the production of NH from arginine.
