Abstract

SUMMARY:

Spheroplast suspensions containing as few as one rod in a thousand were made with (15 ) by the use of penicillin. These spheroplasts could be reverted to the rod state with efficiency approaching 100%. Spontaneous mutation from histidine requirement to non-requirement was observed in these spheroplasts, in which cell division did not take place.
